The Union County Sheriff’s Office on Monday continued to investigate a rape and abduction that happened following a fake traffic stop on Friday.
According to sheriff’s officials, the woman was stopped at about 4:30 p.m. on Friday near Route 245 and Paver-Barns Road, when a man driving what appeared to be a law enforcement vehicle stopped her and forced her to get out of her car and into a truck, 10TV’s Ashleigh Barry reported.
A second man drove the woman’s vehicle away, sheriff’s officials said.
The victim said that she was taken to another area where she was sexually assaulted and then released. She then drove herself to the Memorial Hospital of Union County, where authorities were contacted.
Marysville resident Vivian Noggle said that she would have pulled over when she saw what appeared to be police lights in her rear-view mirror.
“I would have done the same thing, so it’s just kind of scary,” Noggle said.
Resident Matt Beichler said he agreed.
“I thought it was pretty shocking, especially two people doing something like that,” Beichler said. “Usually something like that, someone does it alone.”
The sheriff’s office said that the man who abducted and raped the woman was driving an older model white pick-up truck with a black stripe.
One of the men was described as between 20 and 25 years old, approximately 6 feet tall and skinny with pale skin and dark hair, dark eyes and a goatee and mustache.
The other man was described as being 20 to 25 years old, heavier and wearing a ball cap.
Sheriff’s officials said that drivers should trust their instincts and call 911 if they have questions regarding a traffic stop.
“You have to be careful out there,” Beichler said. “I don’t know these days are crazy days.”
