A church community that was forced to rebuild after a January fire lost more to a fire early Monday morning.
A pole barn, located at 25235 Coder-Holloway Rd., caught fire at about 3:30 a.m. holding salvaged church items from the New Horizons Baptist Church, 10TV’s Tino Ramos reported.
The New Horizons Baptist Church was demolished in January after Stephen Beightler allegedly drove a stolen BMW inside and set the church on fire. Investigators found Beightler, 30, on a swing set about 100 feet away from the burning church.
Beightler was still behind bars when the barn caught fire.
The barn held thousands of dollars worth of sound equipment that was salvaged from the church, Ramos reported.
The owner of the barn said he woke up to a loud noise.
“Probably about 3:15 a.m. in the morning, we hear something that sounded like gunshots,” barn owner Dan Kibbey said. “Well, all the stuff in there now is donated from other churches. We lost everything at our church.”
State fire investigators at the scene said that the fire started accidentally. Investigators said that they found heat tape around a pipe that had gone bad.
No injuries were reported.
