Ad Campaign Targets Painkiller Abuse In Ohio

UPDATED: Monday February 6, 2012 10:57 AM

A new public service ad campaign is targeting prescription painkiller abuse in Ohio using stories of people affected by addiction.

The initiative features ads on Web sites and social media networks, posters in convenience stores and billboards in counties with serious abuse problems.

Some ads feature recovering addicts, and others use the relatives of people who died of overdoses.

Drug overdoses fueled by painkiller abuse now top car crashes as the leading cause of accidental death in Ohio.

The epidemic has also led to a sharp increase in the number of children born addicted to drugs.

The ad campaign is sponsored by the Ohio Department of Alcohol and Drug Addiction Services and the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities.
