Police on Thursday were searching for two men they said stole hundreds of cigarettes from a Walmart.
According to surveillance pictures, the two walked into a Walmart, located on Columbus Pike in Delaware, while employees were stocking the shelves and stuffed 90 cartons of cigarettes into garbage bags, 10TV’s Jason Frazer reported.
“The employees that were on site essentially were working and stocking shelves,” police Capt. Bruce Pijanowski said. “They don’t have customers at night, so no one saw anything or heard anything.”
Police said that the men approached the store and made sure none of the employees were close to the entrance and then decided to go inside, Frazer reported.
“They essentially walked behind the registers over to the last register that contained the cigarettes, pulled out garbage bags that they could load up, loaded up the cigarettes and then exited the store,” Pijanowski said.
The employees did not notice the cigarettes were missing until the following morning, Frazer reported.
Police said that the front door of the store was supposed to be locked, and they believed that the thieves were either familiar with the store policies or cased the store before they entered the building.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Delaware police.
