Former Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel has accepted an administrative position at the University of Akron, 10TV News reported on Thursday.

Tressel will serve as the Vice President of Strategic Engagement, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported.

“I feel I’ve got this great opportunity, and it’s going to be a fun one,” Tressel said.

The news comes days after Tressel's Upper Arlington home was sold, leading many to wonder what was next for the former coach.

Tressel's new position was announced during a Thursday morning news conference.

"I'm excited about being a Zip," Tressel said.

University of Akron President Luis Proenza said that Tressel was a good choice for his school.

“There was never a question that he is a man of the highest standards,” Proenza said. “He stands firmly on principle, and he’ll do a tremendous job as he has for thousands and thousands of students.”

Tressel was asked to resign from Ohio State last may in the wake of a scandal surrounding some of his players exchanging football memorabilia for tattoos.

This past season, Tressel served as a replay assistant on the Indianapolis Colts staff.  He spoke with Colts' owner Jim Irsay about the Colts' vacant head coaching job but did not get the position.

Tressel will earn $200,000 annually in his new position.
