Ohio State's first football recruiting class under coach Urban Meyer is expected to rank among the best in the nation, 10TV Sports reported on Wednesday.
Coaches were gathering around a fax machine awaiting signed letters of intent from high school seniors.
This year's class was not expected to be a factor nationally, but once Meyer was announced as coach, the class is now projected to be in the top five by several national recruiting experts.
Ohio State swayed a couple of would-be Penn State commitments in December in the wake of the scandal surround a former assistant coach and Meyer has convinced other players to rescind on commitments to schools like Michigan State and Notre Dame.
On offense, Ohio State is expected to sign four-star linemen Taylor Decker and Joey O'Connor.
Four-star receiver Mike Thomas, who is from Los Angeles, is the top receiver prospect. Tailback Bri'onte Dunn, rated as a five-star recruit by Scout.com, is expected to play running back.
This year's class is highlighted by the top two ranked weakside defensive ends in the U.S. Noah Spence was drawn away from Penn State and Cincinnati's Adolphus Washington is ranked No. 2.
Other highlights of the class include defensive end Se'Von Pittman and defensive tackle Tommy Schutt. Four-star recruits Devin Bogard, Najee Murray and Armani Reeves are expected to bolster the secondary.
Meyer expected to comment on the recruiting class at 4 p.m. Watch his news conference live on 10TV.com. ONN and 10TV.com will broadcast a National Signing Day special at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
