Marion County Engineers said that they had implemented safety measures at an intersection where a number of people had been injured, but residents and school officials on Tuesday called for more to be done.
Chad Wagner said his 10-year-old son Colton was almost killed last month at the intersection of Hillman-Ford and Kenton-Galion roads.
“As soon as I ran up, my son said, ‘Dad, I think my leg’s broken, and my chest hurts,’” Wagner said. “He had blood coming out of his mouth, and as soon as I got up to him, he collapsed.”
Colton Wagner was rushed to a hospital, and the car his sister was driving was badly damaged, 10TV’s Ashleigh Barry reported.
Chad Wagner said that the car was headed north on Hillman-Ford Road when it was struck, when a truck that was stopped on Kenton-Galion Road pulled out in front of them.
Wagner said that he contacted the Marion County Engineer’s office, which said that they had since implemented signs that warn drivers that crossing traffic does not stop.
Ridgedale Local Schools officials said that more needed to be done to keep people, especially students, safe at the intersection.
“The district would like flashing amber lights on school zone signs” to warn drivers, Ridgedale Superintendent Bob Britton said.
Wagner said that his children were recovering from their injuries but he wanted to make sure a similar crash did not happen again.
“I’m just worried that someone is going to get killed at this intersection, and I’m just glad it wasn’t one of my children,” Wagner said.
