A second-grade teacher will spend three years on probation and will be required to register as a sex offender after being sentenced on Thursday in connection with attempting to solicit sex from a teen.
According to investigators, Aaron Turner, a six-year employee in the Northmor Local School District, was arrested after he replied to a Craigslist posting by police posing as a father-son duo looking for a "good time."
Investigators said that Turner, 28, tried to solicit sex from a 13-year-old boy, 10TV's Shayla Reaves reported.
Turner pleaded guilty on Thursday to a misdemeanor charge of attempted importuning.
In exchange for his plea, he was sentenced to three years probation, required to register as a sex offender and given a curfew. The court also restricted Turner's Internet use on Web sites like Facebook.
Turner's attorney, Gordon Eyster, said that Turner was working to comply with the court and voluntarily gave up his teaching license and his drivers license.
"He has had significant penalties and consequences as a result of this," Eyster said. "Essentially, he is going to be required to start his life over."
Turner's attorney said that he thought the court's decision was fair and that Turner has sought help from mental health professionals.
A probation violation could send Turner to jail for six months and could cost him a $1,000 fine, Reaves reported.
