Slot machines will be available in Columbus months before the new Hollywood Casino opens on the west side, 10TV News reported on Thursday.

Officials from the MTR Gaming Group Inc. on Wednesday said they submitted an initial $10 million license fee to operate video lottery terminals at Scioto Downs in south Columbus.

Construction was already underway at Scioto Downs for a new building featuring 2,125 gaming machines along with a restaurant and bar, 10TV News reported.

MTR Gaming says the terminals should be operational by the middle of the year.

Last year Gov. John Kasich reached an agreement to allow for the video lottery terminals to be placed at the Ohio’s seven horse racing tracks.

MTR Gaming officials said that they believe the new facility at Scioto Downs will bring an additional 800 jobs in Franklin County.
