Longtime restaurant The Clarmont closed its doors for good on Monday, according to its owners.
The Clarmont, located at 684 S. High St., was founded in 1947 by Frank Kondos, who was the first restaurateur to open a fine-dining restaurant on the south side, according to the restaurant's Web site.
Kondos sold the restaurant to Barry Zacks, who was the founder of Max & Erma's Restaurant. He then sold the restaurant to Bill Begelow in 1986.
Bigelow added more fresh fish and seafood to the menu and founded the Showgoers Club, which combined dinner and theater, according to the website.
The current owner is Thom Coffman, who purchased the restaurant in 1996.
