New Information Surfaces About Deadly Carjacking

Investigators on Tuesday released new information about a cold case in which a woman was shot and killed after a carjacking.

Police were still looking for two men who they said got away with murder since a Dec. 26, 2010, carjacking at Tuttle Mall, 10TV's Kevin Landers reported.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, a witness heard two men plotting a carjacking at Tuttle Mall.

"The suspects were overheard talking about, 'Have you picked someone out yet?' And another person said, 'I haven't found one yet.'"

Sheriff Zach Scott said that the conversation was the beginning of a plot to carjack Eric Acosta and his wife Carolina, who died as a result of the carjacking.

Scott said that a year later, he believed that the people responsible have told others, and that those people hold the key to crack the cold case.

Eric Acosta told 10TV in April that he and his wife were carjacked in their Lincoln Navigator along Camden Place Drive.

Acosta told deputies that two people forced he and his wife at gunpoint to drive to the remote area near the Madison County line, where he said that the men told him to get out of the car.

"I tried to give him my wallet, my cellphone, everything I have," Acosta said.

Franklin County Sheriff's Sgt. Bill Duffer said that Acosta got back in the car and drove off because he feared the men were going to execute he and his wife.

Sheriff's deputieis said that said that one of the men fired his gun through the back window of the SUV. The bullet killed Carolina.

"That bullet hit my wife," Acosta said. "I don't know if that was a good idea or not."

The men responsible for the fatal carjacking were described in their late teens or early 20s.
