Delaware County Engineers have plans to improve traffic at the intersection of Old State Road and Polaris Parkway. Get the story.

The proposal includes adding a lane in each direction, a grass median and a paved center turn lane at the intersection, 10TV's Karina Nova reported.

According to engineers, the population of Delaware County is estimated to grow by 33 percent in the next 25 years.

Ike Reynolds, owner of Reynolds Travel located off of Old State Road, said that traffic in the area has worsened over the past 10 years.

"It's absolutely ridiculous," Reynolds said. "It's usually backed up here to the light on East Powell Road."

Bree Johnson, an employee at Mimi's Hair Salon located on South Old State Road, said that the traffic causes many customers to be late for their appointments.

"They'll call us and tell us they're running late because of the traffic," Johnson said. "It's way too much."

More than 200 crashes have been reported at the intersection in the past few years, Nova reported.

According to engineers, construction is scheduled to begin in 2016 and cost $17.2 million.
