A new report shows Ohio had nearly 33,000 homeless children in 2010 and says the number has risen steadily in recent years.

The America's Youngest Outcasts report ranks the states by the extent of child homelessness; the well-being of children; the risk for child homelessness; and state policy and planning efforts.

Ohio came in right in the middle, at No. 25.

The study released Tuesday says Alabama is the worst in the nation for child homelessness, Vermont is best.

The report notes that Ohio lacks long-term planning on homelessness that includes children and families.
