Franklin County sheriff's deputies said that they were hoping to learn more after a horse was shot and killed on Thursday evening.

The 9-year-old horse was shot while standing in a pasture at Lindsay Yinger's stable, 10TV's Justin Moss.

"I was in the barn riding and teaching and heard two loud gunshots," Yinger said.  "(I) knew there was something going on."

Yinger said that when she got to the horse, the animal was bleeding.

"The horses had bright blankets on and everything like that," Yinger said.  "There's no chance that they mistook it for a deer or something along those lines."

Yinger said that she has heard gunfire before around her property.

"I'm very careful with where I put my horses and when I put them in the pasture but there's absolutely no reason -- this is private property -- there's no reason that any of this should ever have occurred," Yinger said.

The horse's owner requested anonymity.
