A man was found dead in the Olentangy River on Saturday evening after neighbors said he was acting erratically.
Police were trying to piece together the events leading up to the man’s death, 10TV’s Jason Frazer reported.
Martie Clark was at a nearby swimming pool when one of her neighbors found the body at about 7 p.m. on the east bank of the river near Broad Meadows Boulevard on the north side.
“There's all sorts of things going on back here that's why I’m moving out,” Clark said.
Melinda Melvin said minutes before the body was discovered, she watched the man run around her neighborhood.
“His body was just cut up. He's got cuts on his back and all on his hands,” Melvin said. “His hands were bleeding profusely. He was sweating profusely.”
Melvin told Frazer that she was so scared that she ran inside her home to avoid the man.
“He had no shoes on but he had boots in hand and he threw them in the air and was just acting really erratic,” Melvin said.
That man was the person pulled from the Olentangy River a little later.
Investigators believed he may have drowned but that will not be confirmed until an autopsy is completed.
Police mentioned there was no indication of foul play.
“I felt real bad because if I would have just called the police instead of shutting the door on him, he might be alive,” Melvin said.
Police did not immediately release the man’s identity.
