Capital University issued a safety alert after two sexual assaults were reported near the campus on Sunday morning.
According to the university, a woman told police that she was assaulted at about 12:45 a.m. in the 800 block of College Avenue.
According to police, another incident occurred about 45 minutes later in the 700 block of Sheridan Avenue. Police said that a woman was returning from walking her friend home when a man approached her and invited her to a party. When she refused, police said that the man shoved and fondled her.
According to investigators, the woman then threw her keys and bit the man on the cheek before he ran away.
Police said that the man was described as white, 6 feet 2 inches tall, with shaggy dark, brown hair and some facial hair.
Capital urged students to be aware of their surroundings and reminded students a safety escort service is available.
Capital student Julie Brown said the students need to be closing their doors.
"Just protect yourself, keep your doors locked, make sure no one follows you in," Brown said. "All these buildings are extremely secure, so only those authorized should be in there. Don't be stupid and leave stuff open that you shouldn't."
They said that they believed the assaults were not related. They asked everyone to be alert and aware of their surroundings at all times, and use the university's public safety escort service.
Anyone who has information about either incident is asked to contact police at 614-236-6666.
