Some people downtown, especially near the top of buildings 20 to 30 stories high felt a magnified trembling sensation on Tuesday afternoon.
The Huntington Bank building was evacuated for nearly 10 minutes after the earthquake struck at about 1:55 p.m., 10TV's Danielle Elias reported.
Employees in portions of the Lazarus building were also evacuated, Elias reported.
People who felt the tremors said it caught them off guard.
"I was just sitting at my desk, eating lunch and reading the paper, and started feeling my chair kind of start to move and my desk was kind of shaking," said Sara King, a Huntington Bank employee.
Authorities said that there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
The 5.8 magnitude earthquake was centered northwest of Richmond, Va., and shook much of Washington, D.C., Rhode Island, New York City, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Martha's Vineyard, Mass., where President Barack Obama is vacationing.
