A 20-year-old faces a felony charge of drug possession after deputies said Friday that she hid 47 balloons of heroin inside a body cavity.
Tiffany Giummo was being held at the Delaware County Jail, 10TV's Jason Frazer reported.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies were advised of a blue Dodge Durango that was heading to Columbus to purchase heroin.
A deputy followed the vehicle, saw Giummo get out and enter another vehicle. After a brief drive around the block, investigators said that the woman walked out of the vehicle and got back into the Durango.
"One of the passengers got out of the vehicle and got into another vehicle," Sheriff Walter Davis said. "We then followed that vehicle a short distance it turned right back around and went back to where it initially started."
Davis said the woman got back into the Durango and drove away.
According to Davis, deputies continued to follow the vehicle until the truck slowed down and started to hold up traffic, so they pulled the Durango over.
"After talking with the driver and things just not adding up we then confronted the passenger," Davis said.
Deputies said the passenger, later identified as Giummo, initially denied the possession of drugs, but then later admitted that she stored the heroin inside her.
Investigators said they found 47 balloons filled with heroin.
Davis said this is just an example of how prevalent the heroin problem has become.
"In 2009 heroin was barely on our radar, in 2010 it was completely off the charts," Davis said. "We're going to do everything we can to make sure that we send a clear message we don't want you trafficking in drugs here in this county."
The driver was not charged.
