A suspected killer who wounded three police officers on Saturday before he was fatally shot was wanted by authorities for alleged crimes in two central Ohio counties.

Law enforcement sources told 10TV News that a warrant was issued for Randle Roberts' arrest in Franklin County after he was captured on surveillance cameras stealing money from a self-serve car wash in Columbus.

Authorities also said that Roberts, 27, was sought for his alleged involvement in a burglary in Delaware County.  Deputies said he was recorded by surveillance cameras trying to break into a Galena home in December, 10TV News reported.

Family members said Roberts had been staying with relatives in southwest Ohio, but on Friday night he shot and killed four of them, among them his father-in-law, two sisters-in-law, and his 11-year-old niece, the Adams County Sheriff's Office said.

It was not clear what led up to the slayings.  An 8-year-old girl who lived in the home where the shootings occurred was not hurt.

Authorities in Columbus were notified of the killings on Saturday and told that Roberts may be in Columbus.  Officers were investigating a report of someone firing gunshots at houses in the Linden neighborhood late Saturday morning when they spotted a pickup that Roberts was driving.

There was a pursuit and Roberts fled on foot after crashing the pickup near Genessee Avenue.  Police said Roberts exchanged fire with officers, wounding two Columbus sergeants and an officer before he was fatally wounded. The officers, whose identities have not been released by police, were expected to make full recoveries, police said.

The Adams County Sheriff's Office said Roberts' brother was hospitalized after suffering non-life-threatening injuries during the shootout.  Police said they were still investigating how he was shot.

No charges were filed against him.
