Church Gives Away Free Gas In Easter Celebration

On Saturday, a central Ohio ministry plans to celebrate Easter by providing some relief from the pain at the pump.

Pastor Kirk Napper spends his life providing hope and comfort to his Linden-area community, 10TV's Tino Ramos reported.

Through The Elevation church on Cleveland Avenue, Napper has been able to reach out to people in their time of need. This weekend, he said, that need will likely be at the gas pump.

"We want to do outreach in this community and bless people on Easter weekend," Napper said.  "Have you looked at gas prices lately? $3.77, $3.89; a lot of people will tell you, this qualifies as a needy time."

Napper's church has made it a practice to perform random acts of kindness, like giving away school supplies to children and providing food baskets for the holiday.

The church's latest act of kindness may be its most popular yet; they will give away free gas this weekend, Ramos reported.

Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, church members will pump $15 worth of free gas to the first 100 customers who show up at the Northern Lights Kroger gas station.

"One hundred cars come through the gas station, we're going to pump your gas and tell them to have a blessed day," Napper said.

For those 100 drivers, the timing could not be better, but Napper said the timing is not about high gas prices; it is about giving back during Easter weekend.
