Dublin police asked bartenders to be on the lookout for customers who might get behind the wheel after a night of drinking.

"Drinking and driving poses a huge risk to the motoring public," said Dublin Police Chief Heinz von Eckartsberg.  "Not only to the people who do it but to everyone else that's on the road."

Bartenders can now offer impaired customers a voucher to help them get home safe, 10TV's Jason Frazer reported.

The voucher is part of the Central Ohio Safe Ride Program, which gives the user a $10 credit for a cab ride.

Four taxi companies participate in the program.

"We want people to have a great time. We want them to enjoy the establishments around St. Patrick's Day but we also want people to make good choices," von Eckartsberg said.

So far, seven Dublin establishments take part in the program, Frazer reported.

"It's good for the community," said Geri Ziemba of the Dublin Village Tavern.  "It gives our community a safe ride home."

The program is paid for by contributions from local bars and taxi companies.
