3 Students Die In Ross County Crash

UPDATED: Sunday February 20, 2011 9:20 PM

Three Paint Valley students were killed late Friday afternoon in a crash in the 3000 block of Spargursville Road near Bainbridge.

Paint Valley Schools Superintendent Gary E. Uhrig identified the students as Leslie Knisley, Ethan Knisely and Nathan Minney.

Uhrig said the driver, Leslie Knisley, 17, was a junior in high school. The two boys were 8th grade students, he said.

Uhrig said it appeared Leslie Knisley overcorrected the pickup she was driving and rolled and struck a tree, 10TV's Ashleigh Barry reported.

Leslie Knisley and Minney, 14, were both pronounced dead at the scene, Barry reported.

Ethan Knisley, 14, was ejected from the vehicle. He was flown to Nationwide Children's Hospital where he later died.

Uhrig said district activities, including the high school boy's basketball game scheduled for Friday night, were canceled after the crash.

"We're going to rely heavily on prayer, it's going to take prayer and we've had two prayer meetings with the students so far today. We plan to have more and when I say prayer meetings we all got in a circle held hands and prayed for these families," Uhrig said. "It's an awful tragedy for these families right now."

Counselors will be on hand through the weekend at the high school, Uhrig said.

The Ross County Sheriff's Office was investigating the cause of the crash.
