"My nerves were just shot," Williams said to McGraw. "Going from your show to that moment of having one more drink, it was champagne."
Williams referred to his appearance on three Dr. Phil episodes last week. He opened up about his time as a radio station deejay in Columbus and New York and his alcohol and drug abuse that caused him to lose his jobs. Last week, Williams was reunited with some family members he had not seen in years.
Williams made national headlines after a video appeared on the Columbus Dispatch Web site about him. The clip that was filmed by Columbus Dispatch videographer Doral Chenoweth III, showed Williams standing near the ramp from Hudson Street and Interstate 71, demonstrating his voice. A sign he held read, "I'm an ex-radio announcer who has fallen on hard times."
After the video went viral, Williams was flown to New York where he made several national television appearances. He was flooded with voice over work offers before he traveled to Los Angeles last week to appear on Dr. Phil.
On Thursday, Williams told McGraw that he also smoked marijuana during his recent Columbus visit.
"The only way I know how to escape pain is that way," Williams said.
Williams also told McGraw about trying to tackle his disease head-on and getting help.
"I am truly going to put every foot forward into killing this disease," Williams said. "My case worker and everyone is just so accommodating and very interested in me recovering."
Williams was scheduled to appear on Friday's Dr. Phil along with his girlfriend, who said she would return Williams to their drug and alcohol filled world in an instant.
The show is scheduled to air at 3 p.m. on 10TV.
