Since 10TV News reported the story of a veteran and his fiance being robbed while they were
giving birth to their child, people called and e-mailed us, wanting to know how they could help.
Tom Sheehan and Tonya Verduga have received an outpouring of support from strangers, after
their home was burglarized and their Christmas presents stolen, 10TV's Andy Hirsch reported on
Thursday.
Members of the Liberty Township Fire Department, in Powell, are adopting the family.
A firefighter who served with Sheehan in Iraq saw his story on 10TV News and decided to pitch in his own money to help the family get back on their feet.
Sheehan, Verduga and their new baby, Jonathan, left the hospital on Thursday, two days after their home was ransacked.
The couple said they were shocked by the generosity of others.
"You don't expect anything like that," Sheehan said. "And then you see it all and it's
overwhelming and it makes you feel great. It's good to know with all the bad people, there's
just as many good."
