Accused Knox County Kidnapper Waives Hearing

UPDATED: Tuesday November 23, 2010 5:00 PM

The man accused of kidnapping a 13-year-old girl and suspected of fatally stabbing her mother, brother and a family friend waived a court hearing on Monday.

Matthew Hoffman was scheduled to have a preliminary hearing on Tuesday in connection with charges of kidnapping Sarah Maynard, 10TV News reported.

The hearing was to determine if there is probable cause to move forward with the case.

A SWAT team found Sarah Maynard bound and gagged in Hoffman's basement on Nov. 14.

A grand jury will decide whether to file charges against Hoffman for the deaths of Sarah's brother Kody, 11, their mother, Tina Herrmann, 32, and family friend Stephanie Sprang, 41.
