Authorities said a Yellow Cab driver was violently attacked during an attempted robbery Friday night in Prairie Township.

According to investigators, Ismail M. Weyrah, 30, picked up Johnny Edwards, 23, and his teenage wife in downtown Columbus for a ride, 10TV's Shayla Reaves reported.

The couple then allegedly tried to rob Weyrah and attacked him with a knife, stabbing him at least 10 times in the head, neck and arm.

Weyrah drove himself to the hospital after the attack, Reaves reported.

Diane Fisher said she saw Weyrah stumble into the hospital for help.

"I thought I heard somebody saying 'Help me' and moaning," Fisher said.

Franklin County Sheriff's detectives later located Edwards and his wife and arrested them, charging them with aggravated robbery, kidnapping, and attempted murder.

It was not clear if the couple got away with any cash.

The president of Yellow Cab, Jeff Kates, released a statement about the incident.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim's family and all of the co-workers at Yellow Cab are thinking about his family," the statement said.

Weyrah was being treated at Grant Medical Center, where his condition was upgraded to fair on Sunday.
