A man whose murder trial was scheduled to start on Monday instead pleaded guilty.

Danny Crawford, 14, was shot and killed in December 2006 after he and friends tossed eggs at passing vehicles on the city's west side, 10TV News reported.

Police said one of the drivers, Michael S. Gross Jr., stopped his sport utility vehicle and chased the boys.  He then opened fire, killing Crawford.

Jury selection had started on Monday morning, but the trial was canceled after Gross changed his plea to guilty, 10TV News reported.

Gross pleaded guilty to voluntarily manslaughter and tampering with evidence.

He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, 10TV News reported.

Gross' sentence will not begin until 2013 because he is already serving time in prison for unrelated charges.
