Sports is largely a male-dominated field, but on Monday the annual gathering of top local names was guided by a woman's touch.

The Morning Report, the yearly "who's who" in central Ohio sports, was the brain child of Linda Logan, the executive director of the Columbus Sports Commission, 10TV's Andrea Cambern reported on Wednesday.

One of the few powerful women behind the scenes in the world of sports, Logan has brought a wide variety of national events to Columbus, including softball, swimming, basketball and the NHL draft.

"I was 10-years-old and went to my first Cleveland Indians game back in the day, and it really captured my imagination," Logan said.

Her love affair with the team sparked a wider love of sports, though she was no athlete.

"My siblings could imitate me running," Logan said. "So that was not a good sign as far as my athletic ability."

Logan wrote a sports column for her high school paper, and then graduated from Ohio University in sports administration.

"I worked in Cleveland, Milwaukee, Kansas City," Logan said. "Always the Midwest, but in varying positions in or around the world of sports."

She joined the Columbus Convention Bureau and carved out a niche that has gained national recognition.

"My husband inscribed the word "curve ball" in my wedding ring because both of us had never been married, and we were in our 40s, and he said he could always hit a fastball but he could never hit a curve," Logan said. "So I was his curve ball."

Their first dance was "Take me out to the ball game," Cambern reported.

"Overnight success takes 20 years," Logan said. "You have to start and not worry about having that entry level job. Just work hard and be passionate, and your work will get noticed."

Logan said she has bids out for Columbus to host the state high school football finals, the NHL All-Star game and men's and women's college basketball championships.
