Procter & Gamble said on Friday that a small group of unhappy parents are behind complaints that Pampers brand diapers are causing severe rashes and blisters.

Mother Jessica Pero, said her baby Evie woke up screaming in March.

"I opened her diaper up," Pero said. "Her bottom was bloody, she had two large blisters.  There was blood in the diaper. It was pretty scary."

Pero said Evie was wearing the new Dry Max Pamper, Kocot reported.

Procter & Gamble Vice President Jodi Allen said some of those parents want the old design back, while others support Pampers' competitors or cloth diapers.

The Cincinnati-based company said it spent 10 years developing the new diaper, which they tout as the driest Pamper ever. The thinner diapers use the company's Dry Max technology instead of the paper pulp that was used before.

A recently launched Facebook page says the company's new product is not a quality one, Kocot reported.

The page asks the company to bring back the older versions of its diapers had more than 4,000 members by Friday afternoon.  Parents also discuss skin treatments and possible boycotts on the site

"It's unfortunate that the social media environment has created this scare," Allen said . "I think they're misleading parents and they're causing undue harm and it's creating a scare that, honestly, I don't think should be out there which is really why we want to tell our side of the story."

The company said it tested the diaper on 20,000 babies and went through more than 300,000 diaper changes.

Allen said pediatric dermatologists insist the babies are suffering from common severe diaper rash.

"I mean, any parent should be worried if they thought their baby could get chemical burns. I would be horrified," Allen said. "There is not one single case of Pampers with Dry Max that's  been associated with chemical burn.  We have not seen on baby that has chemical burn."

Pero said she made the switch to cloth diapers, and now Evie is rash free.

"They really need to own up and take some responsibility instead of blaming it on parents," Pero said.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has launched an investigation into the new type of  Swaddlers and Cruisers diapers.

The company said it has received less than two complaints about diaper rash for every 1 million Pampers sold, and that it stands by its product, Kocot reported.
