Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher has defeated Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner in the Democratic Senate primary, the Associated Press reported Tuesday night.

Gov. Ted Strickland endorsed Fisher for the seat, but the Ohio Democratic Party did not choose sides.

Fisher will face former U.S. Rep. Bob Portman, a Republican, who will have a huge fundraising lead heading into the fall campaign to replace retiring GOP Sen. George Voinovich.
