A man was shot to death Tuesday morning at a north side apartment complex, but many details surrounding the shooting were still unclear.
The shooting occurred at about 9:30 a.m. along Stoneway Drive, located just north of Morse Road.
Residents at the complex told police they heard four or five shots, and then found a man suffering from gunshot wounds inside one of the buildings, 10TV's Maureen Kocot reported.
Byron Baugh, 30, died a short time later.
Police said the man's ex-girlfriend lives at the complex, and he was apparently there to pick up
his 5-month-old child. The ex-girlfriend was being questioned by police on Tuesday afternoon, but
she was not charged, Kocot reported.
She told a 911 dispatcher he was ambushed. "Somebody was chasing um my baby's dad," she said.
Police investigators said they found no spent shell casings in the parking lot outside the woman's apartment, but did find one by the front door, Kocot reported.
Baugh's current girlfriend, Tracy Mitchell, said he was a devoted father.
"That was his pride and joy," Mitchell said. "When it came to the baby, nothing else mattered. Nothing else."
Mitchell said Baugh told her he was shot at last week, Kocot reported.
