Police released additional information Thursday about their investigation into a school
staffer accused of inappropriate conduct with a student.
Larry Dibble, 41, the theater director at The Wellington School, allegedly fondled a student on school property last year. The alleged victim was 18 at the time, 10TV's Tino Ramos reported.
Dibble was arraigned Thursday morning on charges of gross sexual imposition in Franklin County Muncipal Court after spending the night in jail, Ramos reported.
He pleaded not guilty and his bond was set at $10,000, Ramos reported.
Authorities said the former student filed a complaint with Upper Arlington police, but school administrators were not aware of the developments until after Dibble's arrest, Ramos reported.
Police said that Dibble had inappropriate contact with the former student last year between April and May. Dibble's accuser wore a wire and allegedly recorded some of the contact, police said.
"Based on the allegations, we take that very seriously, and immediately focused our attention on
specific needs to make sure there were no additional victims or anybody else was in danger at the
time," said Upper Arlington Police Officer Heather Galli.
Administrators said they were cooperating with the investigation and keeping students' best interests in mind.
"Our paramount interest of course is the well being of our students and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure their safety," said spokeswoman Laura Cooke.
The school said Dibble had been suspended, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Dibble has been associated with the school since 1998, Ramos reported.
