Sheriff's investigators on Monday said a woman was shot in the head in her rural Knox County home.

Jean Davis was found Sunday after a friend went to check on her because Davis did not show up for church, 10TV's Maureen Kocot reported.

Davis, 54, was found outside her home, with a single gunshot wound to her head, Kocot reported.

Her truck, a 2002 Chevy Avalanche was taken from her home, but Knox County Sheriff David Barber said the truck was recovered Monday afternoon in Licking County.

Friends said when Davis did not show up for church, they feared something was wrong.

"That's just how unique she was.  If she wasn't at church somebody was going to go look for her," said Pastor Bob Pelfrey, of the Community Christian Fellowship Church. "It really does leave a difficult unanswerable question in the minds of everybody who knew her because it just shouldn't have happened that way."

Sheriff's investigators and state crime scene investigators searched Davis' house, for clues, but so far no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Knox County Sheriff's Department at 740-393-3333.
