A business drawn up on a notepad, funded with credit cards and inspired by a plant has a pair of young entrepreneurs taking advantage of a tight economy, 10TV's Jerry Revish reported Thursday.

Becca Thompson and Tiffany Wise recently set up a focus group to pick the brains of a carefully selected group of women about their shopping habits.

They showed the group grocery items other products to find out what are their favorites.

All the while, videographers perched high above captured comments and facial expressions.

The two then go back through the tape with others on their team to search for insights and meaning from the focus group's responses.

They'll use the information to help a company define its identity and its brand as part of their new advertising and marketing agency, Tree Tree.

"Branding is more about the reputation that a consumer has with either a company, a person or a product," said Wise.

Thompson and Wise were in between advertising jobs about seven months ago, when they decided to create their own agency.

They got the name from a bonsai tree that Thompson received as a gift she said she thought she had killed it, but on the same day they decided to go into business, the tree started blooming.

They took it as a good omen and sealed their commitment with tattoos.

"This is actually the two T's from our logo together and it's just an everyday reminder that there's no plan "B" - we're not going to fail at this, we're going to figure it out," Thompson said.

These seasoned advertising professionals said running a business on their own is a little daunting.

But, drawing inspiration from their bonsai tree, they're looking for office space, confident their business will continue to grow.

"It's a sacrifice but it's so much fun I can't imagine going back. And when we tell people we didn't have a lot of time to prepare from a money standpoint, they're a little bit shocked but I think for us we never had any doubt that it was going to work," Thompson said.
