Investigators on Friday were trying to determine what sparked a Knox County house fire that left a man dead.

The fire started Thursday at 10:45 p.m. at a home on Oliver Road, 10TV's Tanisha Mallett reported.

When firefighters arrived, they found the home engulfed in flames.  They were instantly concerned after seeing several vehicles parked outside.

"There wasn't any possibility with the first arriving units to get into the house," said Central Ohio Joint Fire District chief Joe Porter.  "It was fully involved."

Firefighters said the victim was found about 10 feet from the home's garage door.

Neighbors and relatives identified him as Jeff Hurst, although authorities had yet to confirm his identity.

No one else was home at the time of the fire, authorities said.

The state fire marshals office said the cause of the fire remained undetermined, and they expected more information to come from an autopsy but that will take another six to eight weeks.

The fire marshall said there was nothing found at the home that could have ignited the fire.
