Police on Thursday credited an 80-year-old man with putting two suspected robbers behind bars.

Investigators told 10TV's Andy Hirsch that the 80-year-old man, who lives by himself, was robbed by the same men four times.

"I think that they found the victim vulnerable, an easy mark," said Whitehall police Detective Steve Brown.  "That's why they kept returning."

The victim, who requested anonymity, said that the men were aggressive and threatened him with a gun.

"I would describe the victim as angry," Brown said.  "People were coming into his home in the middle of the night.  That's upsetting."  We weren't getting the evidence to lead us toward who was doing it."

On a suggestion from his son-in-law, the homeowner installed a hidden camera in his bedroom. Video taken shows the men going through cabinets, drawers and shelves.

Police said that the robbers tried to get the victim to cash a check in the middle of the night.  They took him to his car, but he got in and got away and went down this road for help.  Investigators said that the video he turned over was about all they needed to make the arrests.

"Their mistake was coming back to the well too many times," Brown said.  "I wish we had video for a crime in progress for every crime we have.  This lead directly to the suspects and putting them in jail."

Brad Dailey and Randy Shaw were being held in the Franklin County Jail on burglary, robbery and kidnapping charges, Hirsch reported.

Police said that the two men admitted to the most recent break-in but claimed they had nothing to do with the first three crimes, although investigators believe they were likely involved.
