A 76-year-old man was killed late Wednesday morning when the vehicle he was driving was struck by a train.

The crash occurred at about 11:45 a.m. on Schwemley Road, south of state Route 103, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers said that Edward R. Stevens, of Bloomville, Ohio, was driving north on Schwemley Road when he was struck by a Wheeling and Lake Erie Railway train traveling west.  The vehicle came to rest on the railroad tracks just west of the road.

There are no crossing gates or mechanical warning devices at the railroad crossing, investigators said.

Stevens was pronounced dead at the scene.  Troopers said that he was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.
