Columbus police Det. Althea Young told the court that Derris Lewis, 19, was not immediately a suspect in the shooting death of his brother, Dennis, 17.
Dennis Lewis was shot and killed inside his mother's Loretta Avenue home during the early morning hours of Jan. 18, 2008.

According to Young, it was not until investigators announced that they had matched a bloody palm print to Derris Lewis that she thought he played a role in the shooting. Young testified that she was surprised at the possibility.
"Do you recall when you got the information the match has been made?" an attorney asked.
"Yes, I do," Young said.
"What was your reaction?"
"I was physically ill," Young said.
Lewis' defense attorneys pointed out that police have not ruled out that a handgun confiscated from another teenager was the murder weapon.
During questioning, Young confirmed that the gun had not been ruled out, but also said that ballistic tests did not link it to the slaying.
Defense attorneys have previously said that witnesses can testify that Derris Lewis was someplace else at the time of the shooting.
