A $5,000 reward is offered leading to an arrest of a suspected arsonist.

Six fires have taken place at or near the same south side neighborhood, 10TV's Maureen Kocot reported.

The most recent fire occurred Saturday night at Chase Foundry and Manufacturing Co., located on Parsons Avenue.

Most of the homes were vacant, but because many of the homes are built close together, neighbors said they fear that flames could spread.

"It makes you nervous because if they're getting abandoned houses, what about people that live in houses?" said a neighbor.

Arson investigators said that squatters trying to escape the cold could be to blame for the fires.  Neighbors said the theory does not make any sense because some of the vacant houses that burned were open and drafty.

According to investigators, the arsonist may live in the neighborhood because most of the fires occurred within walking distance of each other.
