Recordings reveal that a teacher accused of soliciting sex online told a confidential informant that she needed to pick up her son shortly before she was arrested on prostitution charges.
Amber Carter, who has taught in the Bellefontaine City School District for 13 years and has a clean record and good reputation, was placed on paid leave while an investigation takes place.
After receiving an anonymous tip about an ad on Craigslist, a Logan County Sheriff's Office sergeant posed as an interested customer and struck up an online correspondence with Carter, 10TV's Andy Hirsch reported.
According to an investigative report, Carter corresponded with the sergeant and wrote, "Let me know if you want me to just service you or if you wanted to actually have sex."
A meeting was arranged at a Super 8 Motel and deputies said that Carter showed up at about noon Tuesday.
In recordings released by investigators, Carter allegedly told the informant that she needed to pick her son up.
"What do you want to do?" Carter asked the informant. "I have to pick up my son about 1 (p.m.), so I have 45 minutes."
"You have 45 minutes? Alright," the informant said.
"I have to pick him up by 1 so we can be in Dayton for his doctor's appointment at 2:30," Carter said on the tape.
According to investigators, Carter was arrested a few moments later after taking cash from the informant, 10TV News reported.
Carter is due in court next week to face charges of misdemeanor prostitution and a felony count of unauthorized use of property related to the school computer.
