Friends and former classmates of a teenager who was killed in a crash gathered to remember her on Monday.

Nikki Hymes was killed Saturday night when her car collided with a Ford Thunderbird that swerved into oncoming traffic, 10TV's Glenn McEntyre reported.

Hymes, 18, was a freshman at The Ohio State University and a recent graduate of Gahanna Lincoln High School.

"I smile when I think of her, even at this tragic time," said Russ Cochrane, who taught Hymes in high school. "We had such a good time her senior year, we just laughed and laughed all through the year. She had a marvelous sense of humor. She's so genuine and compassionate. She was just a person you really wanted to be around."

On Sunday, friends of Hymes placed flowers at the crash scene.

"I had to come give respect to her. It's the only thing I can do," Rachel Meadows said.

Hymes' mother died of cancer three months ago, McEntyre reported.

Kristen Pressel, who was a passenger in the Thunderbird, was also killed in the crash. Pressel's friends told 10TV News that she had learned one day before the crash that she was going to have a child

Investigators said the driver of the Thunderbird, whose name was not immediately released, was driving recklessly at the time of the crash and may have been under the influence of alcohol.

During one of the numerous 911 calls, a witness suggested that the Thunderbird was racing before the crash.

"The Thunderbird was racing (and) somebody was hanging out the window," the caller said.
