Bicyclist Struck, Killed While Riding To Work

A bicyclist was killed Thursday morning when he was struck by a passing vehicle on the city's southeast side.

The man was riding south on Alum Creek Drive near Watkins road at about 5:45 a.m. when he was struck, 10TV's Patrick Bell reported.

The driver called 911 after the crash.

"When you come down through Alum Creek with all these trucks and all the lights, I didn't see this guy," the driver said.

The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said there were reflectors on the bicycle and the man was wearing a reflective vest. Investigators did not say whether he was wearing a helmet.

Alum Creek Drive was closed between Watkins Road and New World Drive after the crash. The road reopened at 9:30 a.m.

Charges were not filed against the driver.
