Less than a week after Marc Dann resigned as Attorney General, Democrats said that the party remains strong.
Dann stepped down on Wednesday following a sexual harassment investigation in his office, 10TV News reported.
Assistant Attorney General Tom Winters will run the AG's office until Gov. Ted Strickland appoints an interim attorney general.
In November, voters will decide who will take over the office during a special election.
"This was not the failings of the party and I think the party responded strongly and forcefully," Strickland said.
Republicans said they hope the scandal will help put Sen. John McCain in the Oval Office, 10TV News reported.
"Bring republicans and independents and a few democrats out as well to the ballot to support the republican candidates, not unlike John McCain," said Ohio Republican Party deputy chairman Kevin DeWine.
The deadline for candidates to register for the special election is August 20.
