10 Investigates' report exposing levels of lead in outsourced dental work sparked the introduction of new legislation in Alabama on Tuesday.

The February investigation revealed that a woman from Ravenna, Ohio suffered long-term pain and jaw damage after receiving a bridge that didn't fit, 10TV's Lindsey Seavert reported.

It was later determined that bridge contained levels of lead.

Further investigation revealed dental labs that make crowns and bridges were unregulated in most states, Seavert reported.

As several states consider adopting dental lab legislation, an Alabama lawmaker took the first step on Tuesday by introducing the Alabama Consumer Dental Act of 2008.

Rep. Greg Wren, R-Montgomery, said that 10 Investigates' report prompted his constituents to ask for action, Seavert reported.

Under Wren's proposal, dentists would be required to provide patients with written information about foreign dental work, or face disciplinary action.

Patients would also be required to sign paperwork before foreign-made items could be placed in their mouths, Seavert reported.
