It’s too early to tell where Ohio State’s Class of 2012 ends up in the “expert” rankings, but as of Wednesday, it sure looks like a good one.
I’ve been covering Signing Day since 1996, and I can’t remember one where things went smoother for Ohio State. Urban Meyer and his staff received the faxed letters of intent from all 23 verbal commitments by mind-morning, followed shortly by a pledge (and signed letter) from linebacker Jamal Marcus in North Carolina.
Next on the list was Cleveland Heights offensive lineman Kyle Dodson, who enlisted the help of his teammates with an organized chant to let everyone know he signed with OSU. Dodson had previously been a verbal commitment to Wisconsin.
Dodson joins Tommy Schutt, Camren Williams, Armani Reeves, Joey O’Connor (all four Penn State), Taylor Decker, David Perkins (both Notre Dame) and Se’Von Pittman (Michigan State) as recruits who switched schools after Urban Meyer was hired in Columbus.
I can only imagine that this is unprecedented at Ohio State.
We’ll see how the rest of the day unfolds, but the Buckeyes are bound to have a top five class. It will be very interesting to see where they rank compared to rival Michigan, which is also expected to ink a top five class.
Ohio State will patiently wait for decisions from a couple other highly sought-after recruits, wide receiver Stefon Diggs from Maryland, and WR/DB Davonte’ Neal from Arizona. It is expected that both will wait until February 10th before deciding.
10TV will have reports coming up today at 5pm, 6pm and 11pm on 10TV HD News. We’ll also have a special edition of Buckeye Blitz on ONN at 8pm, that will also be streamed live at www.10tv.com and www.onntv.com .
