Wrong-Way Driver Speeds Down I-670 At 100 Miles-Per-Hour
Columbus Police rushed to lay down spike strips on an east Columbus highway overnight after a wrong-way driver was seen racing down Interstate 670.
Officers say a vehicle was spotted traveling more than 100 miles-per-hour eastbound in the westbound lanes around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
The driver, identified as 27-year-old Brenton Matthew Halsey, eventually exited on to Interstate 270. Police say they put down spike strips on I-270 south at East Broad Street. The vehicle's tires were damaged and the driver was forced to stop.
Halsey is charged with felony fleeing and eluding.
Officers tell 10TV the driver may not own the vehicle, and they do suspect that person was driving drunk.
Court records show he has a history of traffic offense including speeding and driving without a license.
