Woman Turns Trash Into Art

An artist brings her passion for recycling to school children all over the country, and on Wednesday she was teaching students in Bexley.

All of Michelle Stitzlein's art is made from recycled materials, 10TV's Andrea Cambern reported.

She taught a class at Montrose Elementary School in Bexley, where she helped students screw plastic bottle caps onto panels.

The panels will form a 30-foot mural for the school library.

Last fall, children submitted 50 drawings based on the theme "From Roots to Wings," and collected more than 20,000 bottle caps in a rainbow of colors.

Under the supervision of adult volunteers, they used a drill to attach the caps.

"You can reuse it, somehow, some way," Stitzlein said. "And the big picture, when they stand back from this mural, they're going to see a beautiful mural. And when they get close up, they're going to realize, wow, these are bottle caps. This was trash."

The finished mural will be assembled in the next couple weeks.
