A woman said a man stole $1,300 from her tax return after pointing a gun at her.

According to court documents, a woman was dropping off a friend, identified as Freddy P. Sowards, and an acquaintance of his at Whitehead Road and South Harris Avenue.

The woman said that as Sowards was getting out of the car, the acquaintance, who 10TV News did not name because he has not been officially charged, brandished a pistol and demanded her money, court documents stated.

Castle said she handed over the money and then wrote down the license plate number and called police.

Police said that they located the vehicle at a home in the 30 block of Powell Avenue. An officer went inside of the home and approached the co-defendant, who allegedly pointed a gun at the officer.

Three young children were inside of the home at the time.

The man dropped the gun, fled upstairs and was taken into custody, according to the court.

Documents stated that the co-defendant denied robbing the woman.

Sowards was held in jail on Tuesday on $100,000 bond.
