A woman was attacked by three dogs while hiking at the Great Seal State Park in Chillicothe.

Officers from the Ross County-Chillicothe Law Enforcement Center were called to the park at about 5:30 on Thursday.

The woman’s husband was able to reach her by cell phone and report her location. When a sergeant and the husband arrived on scene two of the dogs fled but the other dog, a Boxer, charged at the pair before being shot and killed by the officer, according to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman was found to have several puncture wounds on the lower half of her body. She later gave a statement saying she came upon the dogs feeding on an animal carcass while hiking and they started to bark and charged at her, pinning her against a tree.

She attempted to fight the dogs off with a stick.

The incident is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office, Ross county Dog wardens and The Great Seal State Park rangers.
