Westerville South Basketball Player Dies After Collapsing Following Practice
He was described as a great kid with a great smile - a power forward on Westerville South's Junior Varsity team.
Those are some of the memories friends shared with 10TV about 17-year-old Christopher Randolph.
But sadly, they say, the memory of what happened Wednesday night weighs heavy on their heart.
“He just kind of collapsed I guess and laid done on the floor,” said teammate Matt Hoffman
Teammate, Matt Hoffman, says the team had just finished running drills and they thought Christopher seemed really tired.
"We didn't know what was happening, and we called the trainer and then the trainer, we called the squad and a couple of ambulances showed up and then they took him to the hospital and something actually was wrong," says Matt Hoffman.
A Westerville City School District spokesperson tells 10TV a certified athletic trainer was on site during basketball practice and they tended to Christopher until an ambulance arrived.
Christopher was taken to St. Ann's Hospital where he later died.
Westerville South staff members were notified of Christopher's death last night.
A team meeting was called at 8 this morning, where Matt, says their coach did his best to encourage them.
"He said we've got to keep him in our prayers and help his family and remember his family and remember him and be strong for him,” said Hoffman
No cause of death was released; however, an autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
